Drugs seized at Castle Peak Bay Immigration Centre
**************************************************

The Correctional Services Department took every measure to prevent the smuggling of dangerous drugs into correctional institutions and to eradicate any presence of them, a department spokesperson said today (April 16).

"The department is committed to maintaining a drug-free environment for all people in its custody", the spokesperson said.

The comments followed department staff's seizure of suspected dangerous drugs concealed in a hand-in item for a detainee, a 26-year-old Pakistani, at Castle Peak Bay Immigration Centre (CIC) yesterday (April 15).

In a routine search on hand-in items intended to be given to a detainee by his approved visitor, a department security staff member found about nine grams of suspected cocaine and cannabis resin concealed at the bottom of both legs of a pair of jeans.

The case has been reported to the Police.

The department spokesperson added that there were 35 seizures of dangerous drugs between January and March this year, with the seizures mainly in the reception centres.
