***********************************************

The Independent Checking Unit (ICU) in the Housing Department issued a Notice of Expiry of Closure Order today (May 4) to completely lift the closure of the whole market at the ground floor, as well as the supermarket and the carpark on the first floor of the Hau Tak Shopping Centre in Tseung Kwan O.

"With our compliance inspection today following The Link Management Limited (The Link)'s completion of all required strengthening works under the supervision of their appointed Authorised Person/Registered Structural Engineer, we are satisfied that the imminent danger had been removed," a spokesman for the ICU said.

"The repair works proposal to the area of fire damage is yet to be submitted by The Link for approval by ICU as required by the Repair Order issued under Section 26A of the Buildings Ordinance.

"To safeguard public safety, the areas of the fire damage have been fenced off by The Link until the completion of required repair works," he said.

"We will accord priority to processing the repair works proposal yet to be submitted by The Link to enable them to complete the repair works as soon as possible," he added.

On April 2, the ICU obtained a Closure Order from the Hong Kong District Court after a fire which broke out in the evening of March 29, 2007. On April 17, a Notice of Expiry of Closure Order to part of the market and part of the supermarket was issued.
