In response to media enquiries on the visitor arrivals of the Labour Day Golden Week, a spokesman for the Tourism Commission gave the following reply today (May 8):
According to the provisional visitor arrival figures provided by the Immigration Department, the total number of visitor arrivals during the Labour Day Golden Week this year (April 28 to May 7) was 886,674, up by 22% when compared with the 2006 Labour Day Golden Week (April 29―May 8).
As for Mainland visitors, 540,285 (representing 61% of the total arrivals) came to Hong Kong during the 10-day Golden Week period, an increase of 30% as compared with the same period last year. Among them, 354,746 - or 65.7% - travelled under the Individual Visitor Scheme (IVS). The proportion during the same period last year was 54.8%. Visitors travelled with a group visit endorsement accounted for about 5.2%.
