A dance gala showcasing the beauty of various Chinese ethnic groups united as one harmonious family, will be presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
"Celebration in Motion ― A Chinese Folk Dance Gala" by the Elite Dance Company of China will be staged next month (June).
The Elite Dance Company of China was formed by Zhang Jigang specially for the dance showcase of Celebration in Motion ― A Chinese Folk Dance Gala includes Tibetan, Mongolian, Korean, Miao and Han nationalities. Its 100-strong members consist of 5 Class One Dancers from the Song and Dance Troupe of the Chinese People's Liberation Army General Political Department and best performers of The Jilin Municipal Song and Dance Troupe.
Artistic Director Zhang Jigang is the former director of the Song and Dance Troupe of the Chinese People's Liberation Army General Political Department, a National Class One Director. He is the Deputy Director of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. His productions have been seen in more than 60 countries and regions, and have won the highest accolades in international competitions. Zhang is a highly esteemed and an influential figure in the dance circles of China.
Principal dancers include National Class One Performers and members of Song and Dance Troupe of the Chinese People's Liberation Army General Political Department like Qiu Hui, Wang Xiaoyan, Gu Liangliang, Tang Liwei and Chai Mingming.
