The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in April shows a slight increase of 83 cases than the previous month, representing an insignificant rise of 0.03%, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (May 9).
Total CSSA caseload at the end of April stood at 294,287(see attached table), with a total of 516,302 welfare recipients.
Analysed by case nature, the number of unemployment cases decreased by 0.3% to 36,634 cases.
Single parent cases registered a marginal decrease of 13 cases in April to 38,265.
Low earnings cases showed a month-to-month decrease of 0.2% in April to 18,000.
Total government expenditure on CSSA payments was about $17.8 billion for 2005-06.
