Two nominations were received by the Returning Officer for the by-election in the Hong Lok Yuen Constituency of the Tai Po District Council by the close of the nomination period today (May 9).

The Returning Officer will rule on the validity of the nominees' candidature shortly.
A briefing for candidates and their agents will be held at Tai Po District Council Secretariat Conference Room, 4/F, Tai Po Complex, 8 Heung Sze Wui Street, Tai Po at 6pm on Monday (May 14). The Chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission, Mr Justice Pang Kin-kee, will chair the briefing and introduce the guidelines on election-related activities.
A representative from the Independent Commission Against Corruption will explain the Elections (Corrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ordinance. The Returning Officer and officials of the Registration and Electoral Office, the Post Office and the Department of Justice will also be present.
If there is more than one validly nominated candidate, voting for a contested election is set for June 10 (Sunday). The returned candidate will fill a vacant seat of an elected member in the Tai Po District Council.
