No plan to review public housing rent adjustment mechanism
**********************************************************

In response to media enquiries, a spokesman for the Housing Department (HD) said that the HD's representatives met with the Neighbourhood and Workers Service Centre today (January 13) to hear views on the rent adjustment mechanism and Rent Assistance Scheme for public rental housing (PRH) tenants.

"At the meeting, HD's representatives noted the views of the Centre on the rent adjustment mechanism and the Rent Assistance Scheme. The HD representative pointed out that the rent adjustment mechanism was thoroughly discussed by the Housing Authority and in the Legislative Council.  The mechanism was implemented in 2007 after the Legislative Council passed the Housing (Amendment) Ordinance.  Under the mechanism, tenants' affordability is the factor used to determine PRH rent.  PRH rent is adjusted according to changes in the household income of PRH tenants," the spokesman said.

HD has no plan to review the existing rent adjustment mechanism. Nor are there any plans to change the Rent Assistance Scheme.
