Renowned Cantonese opera virtuosi, including Huang Weikun, Wan Fai-yin, Pak Suet-mui, Tang Mei-ling, Chan Ka-ming, Nam Tin-yau, Lui Hung-kwong, Yuen Tak-cheong, and Sung Hung-bo, will perform new Cantonese opera "A Foxy Tale" in February and March.
Towards the end of the Ming Dynasty, people are living in dire misery under an extremely corrupt government. In the mountainous county of Wu, a gang of bandits have besieged the county capital. The ringleader covets Chen Su'e, wife of county magistrate Du Wenbin, for a mistress. He even declares that his forces will charge all the way into the city and spare no life inside unless Wenbin surrenders. Confronted by such a ferocious enemy, Wenbin stalls by promising to wave the white flag after three days while secretly sending for reinforcements from Li Tianxiang in Yi Zhou. Upon receipt of the urgent request, Tianxiang leads his troop to the rescue of his old friend and annihilates the invaders in a flash. The beautiful, Xiao Yun and a group of female captives abducted by the bandits are also freed and escorted back to Wu.
Just when the battle-scarred city is about to resume its serenity, another calamity occurs. A spate of killings takes place, with all the victims having their hearts torn apart by fox spirits. The stench of horror spreads. Strained by the pursuit of the demons, long-term friends Wenbin and Tianxiang also find their relationships with their own beloved ones put to the most severe test...
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the new Cantonese opera "A Foxy Tale", lyrics and dialogue with Chinese and English subtitles, will be staged at 7.30pm on February 28 (Monday), at the theatre, Ko Shan Theatre; and 7.30pm on March 1 (Tuesday), at the Auditorium, Yuen Long Theatre. Tickets priced from $100 to $280 are now available at all URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by telephone credit card booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students, and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for full-time students and CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis).
