The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) early this morning (January 18) raided an unlicensed cold store at Tai Om Shan, Tai Po, which contained about 9,700 chilled poultry items covered by health certificates.
The FEHD also seized about 330 kilogrammes (kg) of chilled and frozen food products not accompanied with valid health certificates. They include 129 kg of frozen chicken legs and wings, and 89 kg of frozen duck tongues.
A 56-year-old man arrested in the operation was charged with operating an unlicensed cold store.
Under the Food Business Regulation, the maximum penalty for operating an unlicensed cold store is a fine of $50,000 and six months' imprisonment.
"We will continue to take stringent enforcement action against unlicensed food business to safeguard food safety and public health," an FEHD spokesman said.
"People should report such illegal activities through the 1823 Call Centre."
