More samples of imported German food products pass dioxin tests
**********************************************************

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department today (January 19) announced that eleven more samples of imported German food products have passed dioxin tests. To date, all the dioxin test results of a total of sixteen samples were satisfactory.

"In view of the recent detection in Germany of dioxins in some eggs, poultry and pork produced in the country, samples of imported German food products have been collected from the market at the import level and sent to the Government Laboratory for dioxin testing," a CFS spokesman said.

"Apart from the test results of five samples announced on January 14, the dioxin tests on eleven more samples have been completed with satisfactory results. They comprise four samples of eggs, three samples of poultry products, two samples of pork and two samples of pork products.

"The measure to hold and examine imported German eggs, poultry as well as pork and pork products will remain in place. The CFS will continue liaison with the German authorities and the European Commission, and monitor the situation closely," the spokesman added.
