Police Tuen Mun District conducted an undercover operation codenamed "Pilotflyer" since January 2010 to combat triad activities including drug trafficking and violent crimes targeting youths in places of entertainments in Tuen Mun area.
Undercover operations had been deployed to bars and amusement game centres for collecting evidence for months. A large scale arrest operation was conducted by crime officers of Tuen Mun District yesterday (January 19) and up till now, twenty-three men and two women, aged between 17 and 46, were arrested. Most of the arrestees are believed to be core members of a triad group active in Tuen Mun area. They are suspected to be involved in various criminal offences, including ‘claiming to be a member of triad society (“MOTS”)’, ‘acting as a MOTS’, ‘inducing a person to become a MOTS’, ‘unlawful assembly’ and ‘trafficking in a dangerous drug’ etc.
During the operation, various kinds of dangerous drugs, such as Ketamine, Cannabis, Nimetazepam (commonly known as Erimin 5) and Crack Cocaine were seized. Some offensive weapons, including extended batons and water pipes, were also seized in the course of the operation.
Police believed that a group with triad background actively engaged in drug trafficking activities in Tuen Mun area has been neutralized. The operation is still on going and active investigations by officers of District Anti-Triad Squad of Tuen Mun are underway.
Twenty-three men and a woman will be charged with relevant offences and will appear at Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (January 21). The other woman was released on bail pending further enquiries.
Combating triad-related activities, drug trafficking and abuse of dangerous drugs are the Commissioner of Police’s Operational Priorities. Police will continue to conduct intelligence-led operations to tackle such criminal activities.
