CHP investigates influenza case with severe complication

     The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health today (January 21) repeated its call for vigilance against influenza upon receipt of notification of a confirmed case of human swine influenza with severe complication affecting a three-year-old boy.

     The boy presented with fever, cough and shortness of breath beginning January 11. He developed pneumonia and was admitted to Queen Mary Hospital for intensive care the next day. His condition has improved with treatment. The patient is currently in the general ward in stable condition.

     His tracheal aspirate specimens tested positive for Influenza A H1N1 (human swine influenza).

    The spokesman reminded members of the public to stay vigilant and take precautionary measures against influenza.

    The public are advised to maintain good personal and environmental hygiene and build up good body immunity by having a proper diet, regular exercise, get adequate rest, reduce stress and avoiding smoking.
