The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present a wide range of activities including lantern carnivals, thematic lantern exhibitions and a lantern design competition entries exhibition to celebrate the coming Mid-Autumn Festival. Admission to all activities is free.
Featuring a variety of entertainment programmes, lantern carnivals will be held at Tin Shui Wai Park and Ginza Square on September 11, at Victoria Park on September 12, and at Sha Tin Park and Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza on September 13.
The highlight of the three lantern carnivals will be performances of Shaolin kung fu, songs, dance and acrobatics by the Henan Arts Troupe from the Mainland supported by the Office for Cultural Affairs with Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Regions, Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China. There will also be demonstrations of Chinese folk crafts such as paper-cutting, clay figurines and woodblock printing by craft masters.
All the carnivals will be decorated with beautiful lanterns and will be open to the public from September 9 to 13. The Victoria Park carnival will showcase several spectacular lantern displays including the "Lantern Wonderland" organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board, traditional hand-made revolving "zoumadeng" lanterns organised by the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, and the "Charm·Made in Hong Kong" display featuring people and things from the 1960s and '70s, an animal grove and an amusement park.
