The names of the 915 validly nominated candidates for the 2011 District Council Election were gazetted today (October 10). The numbers for each candidate on the ballot papers, which were determined by drawing lots, were also gazetted.
Candidates in 76 of the 412 constituencies in the 18 districts have been returned uncontested while a total of 839 candidates will compete for the remaining 336 seats.
"Polling will take place on November 6. A total of 452 ordinary polling stations and 25 dedicated polling stations will be open on the polling day for about 2.9 million electors listed on the 2011 electoral roll to cast their votes," a spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office said.
"About 660,000 registered electors in the uncontested constituencies do not have to vote," he said.
The polling hours for the ordinary polling stations and the three dedicated polling stations set up at police stations will be from 7.30am to 10.30pm. For the 22 dedicated polling stations set up in penal institutions, for security reasons, the polling hours will be from 9am to 4pm.
