Join tap dance lectures and workshops to create your own rhythmic dance
*********************************************************

Tap dancer Eric Huynh will conduct eight tap dance lectures and workshops during November and December. Beginning with the basics, Huynh will guide participants through their first encounter with the tap dance genre, teaching the essential techniques and giving learners an overall appreciation of the art of tap dance. By the end of the course, each participant will be able to tap dance with a style that is totally his or her own.

Tap dance, as the name suggests, is about making percussive sounds with the feet. It is one of the more relaxed dance forms, requiring little formal movement and allowing for individual improvisation. The emphasis is on the technical complexity of percussive rhythms generated by the tip and sole of the tap shoes making contact with the floor. In other words, what the dancer "says" with his or her shoes is more important than the way the dancer looks when executing the movements. Humour, fun and expressiveness are the features that distinguish tap dance from other dance genres.

Eric Huynh graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), majoring in Musical Theatre Dance. He also attained the ISTD Intermediate Tap Certificate with distinction. His experience includes working as an assistant choreographer for the HKAPA Extension and Continuing Education for Life (EXCEL) Summer Musical School "Grease". He has performed in many musicals including "Bye Bye Cinderella", "Homo Superus" and "Peter Pan" (Asian tour 2007). Eric is currently a freelance performer.

The workshops will be held on Tuesdays at 7.30pm in the Lecture Room, Yuen Long Theatre. Details are as follows:
