The Hong Kong Contemporary Art Awards 2012, presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and organised by the Hong Kong Museum of Art, is now inviting entries.
The competition, originally named the Hong Kong Contemporary Art Biennial Awards, is now in its 17th edition.It is organised to encourage local artists to excel in artistic creation by providing a platform to showcase their talent, review recent developments in the local art scene and explore the unique cultural characteristics of Hong Kong as a cosmopolitan city.
Entrants must select one of the following two panels for their entries in order to facilitate judging and assessment:
Panel A: Contemporary Chinese painting and calligraphy, seal carving and related creations including multimedia and works of other media.
Panel B: Contemporary art, including a wide range of media such as painting, photography, printmaking, ceramics, sculptures, mixed media, installation, video art, digital art, conceptual art or other media and cross-media works.
Entrants may submit their entries personally or as a group. Each piece of work submitted should be an original creation completed on or after January 1, 2009. Two rounds of judging will be conducted.

Ms Kao Chien-hui, Chicago-based art critic
and independent curator.
The judging criteria will be based on originality, creativity and artistic merit. A maximum of ten Hong Kong Contemporary Art Awards, two Achievement Awards and two Young Artist Awards will be presented. Together with a certificate, winners of the Hong Kong Contemporary Art Awards will be granted HK$25,000 while the Achievement Award and Young Artist Award winners will each receive HK$50,000 and HK$20,000 respectively. Works selected will be put on display at the Hong Kong Museum of Art next year.
The results of the Preliminary Selection will be announced on June 25 on the Museum's website. They will also be posted in the lobby of the Hong Kong Museum of Art.
Entry forms are now available at the Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Art Promotion Office, Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware and the Hong Kong Museum of Art's website. Interested parties must submit the completed entry form with all required information to the Modern Art Sub-unit on the third floor of the Hong Kong Museum of Art, 10 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon no later than May 20.
