The Government has worked to build an inclusive, knowledge-based society. The elderly are now using computers and the Internet after joining training courses supported by the Government, and children from low-income families can buy a computer for about half of the market price through the Government's Internet Learning Support Programme.
The Government hopes that by 2014 all students from low-income families can have a computer and access the Internet at home. It also hopes one in four elderly people can use a computer and access the Internet in the near future.
A video and feature story looking at cases where needy groups have benefited from government aid schemes for computers and the Internet has been published on the news.gov.hk website today (May 13).
