Police yesterday (September 18) conducted a territory―wide operation to enforce the new legislative amendment and enhance the safety of public light bus (PLB). Stringent enforcement actions included the deployment of Motor Vehicle Examiners to conduct on-spot examination and plainclothes officers on board to observe the driving manner of PLB drivers.
During the operation, Police have checked a total of 280 PLBs and issued 75 fixed penalty tickets as well as 110 summonses against PLB drivers for various traffic offences including failing to display a PLB driver identity plate, speeding and failing to comply with traffic signs.
In addition, five PLBs were detained for inspection. Among them, one was found ‘failing to maintain a speed limiter in good and efficient working order’ and the remaining were found having ‘illegal modification’.
Police also issued 60 summonses to PLB passengers for not fastening their seat belts.
The Police will continue to mount similar operations to enhance road safety.
