The “Star” Ferry piers have been awarded "My 10 Most 'Liked' Hong Kong Architecture of the Century" 

HONG KONG, March 20, 2015 -- Organised by Hong Kong Architecture Centre (HKAC), sponsored by Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and officiated by Mrs. Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, GBS, JP, Chief Secretary for Administration, "My 10 Most 'Liked' Hong Kong Architecture of the Century" announced the 10 most "Liked" architectural pieces in the city voted by the public. Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry Pier, The Five Flagpoles and the Central Star Ferry Pier are one of the award-winning architectures.

"My 10 Most 'Liked' Hong Kong Architecture of the Century" was launched to celebrate the 10th anniversary of HKAC. The public voted for their 10 most 'Liked' Hong Kong architectures among the 100 shortlisted pieces from 1st January to 6th February, 2015. Over 15,000 people voted for a maximum of 10 architectural pieces per person, making the public voting with over 150,000 votes.

"I am delighted to know that the Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry Pier, The Five Flagpoles and the Central Star Ferry Pier were voted by the public for one of their “Liked” architectural pieces in the city. As one of Hong Kong's major tourist icons, The "Star" Ferry shall continue to provide reliable, enjoyable and economical cross-harbour services to local commuters, visitors and tourists alike," said Mr. Johnny Leung, General Manager of The "Star" Ferry Company, Limited (The “Star” Ferry).

Established in 1898, The "Star" Ferry was also named by the National Geographic Traveler in 1999 as one of the "50 Places of a Lifetime".

"My 10 Most 'Liked' Hong Kong Architecture of the Century" was launched in 2014 to enrich the general public's appreciation of the built environment. Through public voting and a series of related events consisting of public lectures, guided tours, education & young people's events and an exhibition, HKAC hopes to enhance participants' understanding of the historical, social, economic, artistic and cultural evolution and development of our city. The campaign also aims to increase the participants' recognition of the essence of our place and foster our sense of belonging to the city.
