A bit of Russia for Hong Kong audiences

    Russian North State Folk Music Songs and Dance Ensemble will present colourful ethnic dance, accompanied by authentic live music, bringing Hong Kong audiences a pastoral poem of Russia's north.

     The programme, "The Cathedral Hill", covers various aspects of life in northern Russian. It is a pastoral poem of traditional Russian folk dance and music, full of energetic dance, colourful costume and authentic music. Thirty professional dancers, singers and musicians will recreate the life and customs of the country folk of Vologodskaya in Russia's northwest.

     Highlights of the show include dancing with beautiful worth lace "Vologda Lace-makers", playing popular traditional games "Winter games", competition between country and city fashion girls "Oh, You Senka-Semyon" as well as dancers invite audience participate in "I walk and have a good time".

     The "Russki Sever" (Russian North) State Folk Music, Song and Dance Ensemble is a folk art company with a versatile programme. The company's creative creed is a synthesised theatrical action based on the ritual traditions and ethnographic background of the people inhabiting the northwest. Art Director  Louri Tsepelev is an honoured figure of Art of Russian Federation, highly esteemed by experts in folklore. Over the years, the company has created many concert programmes of high artistic merit, including "Over here in the Environs of Vologda", "The Cathedral", "The Russian Tavern", and "The Russian Flax".

     Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the show will be staged at 8pm on April 13 to 15 at Sha Tin Town Hall, Tsuen Wan Town Hall and Yuen Long Theatre respectively. Tickets priced from $90 to $200 are now available at all URTBIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. (Limited tickets for Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis.)
