CSSA caseload for February

    The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in February showed a decrease of 0.4% (1,163 cases) over January, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (March 7).

     Total CSSA caseload at the end of February stood at 293,800 (see attached table), with 518,681 welfare recipients.  

     Analysed by case nature, the number of unemployment cases decreased by 1.3% to 36,887 cases.

     Single parent cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 0.4% in February to 38,271.

     Low earnings cases showed a month-to-month decrease of 0.8% in February to 18,007.
 
     Total government expenditure on CSSA payments was about $17.8 billion for 2005-06.
