People not competing in the inaugural Hong Kong Games, to be held next month, can still be a part of it and be winners simply by making a guess or a vote.
The Organising Committee of the Games today (March 8) invited the public to guess which district would become the overall champion of the Games and also to vote for their favourite district. Those who correctly guess the champion district and supporters of the district which eventually gets the most votes will have the chance to win prizes.
Hong Kong’s first territory-wide multi-sport games will be held from April 21 to May 6. It is one of the major programmes to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Each of the 18 District Councils will field teams to compete in four popular sports: athletics, basketball, badminton and table tennis.
Scores will be calculated for the districts according to the results of the competitions and the district which accumulates the highest total score from all four sports will be the overall champion.
People who correctly guess the overall champion district will automatically enter a lucky draw. They are also encouraged to vote for the district they support in the Games. Those who vote for the district which gets most votes and becomes “My Favourite Sporty District” will automatically enter another lucky draw.
Each draw will have a winner, two second and three third prizes and they will all receive Swiss-made Buler watches respectively valued at $5,000, $3,200 and $2,400, donated by Free Town Watch Products Limited. Three more Buler watches will be offered as special prizes in each lucky draw.
Entry forms for guessing the overall champion and voting tickets for “My Favourite Sporty District” are now available at all District Leisure Services Offices and sports centres of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
All Hong Kong residents holding valid identification documents, irrespective of age, are welcome to enter the guessing and voting games. Completed entry forms and tickets should be put into collection boxes at District Leisure Services Offices and sports centres on or before April 21. Multiple entries are allowed for both the guessing and voting games.
The overall champion and the district voted “My Favourite Sporty District” will be announced at the Games’ closing ceremony at Hong Kong Park Sports Centre on May 6. The lucky draws will be made at the same time.
Results of the lucky draws will be published in Sing Tao Daily and Hong Kong Standard on May 15.
The Games, to be held biennially, are aimed at strengthening communication and friendship among the 18 districts and promoting Hong Kong people’s interests in sports and their sense of belonging to their communities.
The Games are organised by the Sports Commission and co-ordinated by its Community Sports Committee with support from the 18 District Councils, the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, the four relevant National Sports Associations and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
