The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (March 8) pursued a claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $28,000 on behalf of an employee, who was owed MPF contributions by the employer.

The defendant, Tai Fook Chuen trading as Ngai Feng Company, did not appear at today's hearing. In his absence, the Adjudicator ordered him to pay the MPFA the sum of $28,573.94, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the employee's MPF account as soon as it is received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payment of $190 as cost in respect of the claim.
