A company, a clubhouse operator and manager were each fined $5,000 today (March 13) at the Eastern Magistrates' Court for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.
The court heard that officers of the Licensing Authority of Home Affairs Department (HAD) inspected a clubhouse in Jaffe Road, Wan Chai, last October and found that the layout of the premises deviated from the registered plans.
The manager of the clubhouse agreed to the revised layout as recorded by the officers during investigation. Meanwhile, the clubhouse operator also admitted that the layout of the club was altered without permission.
The operator, the manager as well as the company, holder of the Certificate of Compliance(CoC), were in contravention of conditions of the CoC and subsequently charged under section 21(1)(a) and 21(2) of the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.
A department spokesman said that enforcement action would continue to be taken against illegal clubhouse operations to ensure the safety of patrons of these establishments.
