Press release on Kwong Wah Hospital Norovirus cases outbreak

The spokesperson of Kwong Wah Hospital (KWH) made the following announcement today (13 March 2007):

     Six female patients (Aged 65 ― 100) and one staff member of the Medicine & Geriatric ward in KWH have presented with diarrhea or vomiting symptoms since 9 March 2007, all patients are being treated under isolation and in stable condition.  The Norovirus test of one patient was positive, while the laboratory test results of the remaining five patients and the staff member are pending.  The staff concerned is now on leave.

     Infection control measures have already been enhanced.  There will be no new admission to the ward for the time being.   Restricted visiting policy has been implemented. All patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
