Catch the Hong Kong Flower Show (with photos)

    Time is running for people to see tens of thousands of exotic flowers at the annual Hong Kong Flower Show at Victoria Park. The show ends tomorrow (March 25).

     At today's (March 24) prize presentation ceremony for the Hong Kong Flower Show 2007/Nanyang Commercial Bank Student Drawing Competition, Fung Chun-ling from Jockey Club Ti-I College, and Ip Pui-man from Mrs Cheng Yam On Millennium School were respective overall winners for the Secondary School Section and Primary School Section.

     This year, the drawing competition attracted about 2,000 students from more than 160 schools. The winning entries are now on display at the showground.

     Catch the last opportunity to see the colourful wonderland of more than 350,000 flowers, including 60,000 pots of theme flower Geraniums.

     Highlights of the show include the spectacular LCSD display "Happy Reunion", special exhibit "Wollemi Pine" (Wollemia nobilis), the spectacular sea of 15,000 colourful tulips, a floral wall displaying East Asian Games' emblem and slogan, and the displays presented by the Institute of Horticulture (Hong Kong), Shanghai Landscaping Administration Bureau, the Bureau of Urban Utilities and Landscaping of Guangzhou Municipality, and Shenzhen Municipal Agriculture, Forestry & Fishery Bureau.

     A series of fringe activities complement the flower show for the enjoyment of visitors. At the ceremonial stage, there will be performances and floral art demonstrations. Ms Jinny Park Jin-yong of Korea will demonstrate floral art arrangement from 11.30 am to 12.30 pm tomorrow whereas Ms Koka Fukushima (The Hong Kong Branch of the Sogetsu Teachers' Association) of Japan will demonstrate from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm.

     At the Central Lawn, children will enjoy inflatable bouncer, Small Olympics and fun games from 10 am to 5.30 pm. From 12 noon to 5 pm, there will also be "Pony cum Olympic Equestrian Display". A "Battery Toy Car Play-in" area is set up at the Tennis Centre Court from 10 am to 5.30 pm.

     The Show opens from 9am to 9pm. Admission tickets are available at the entrance to the showground at Victoria Park. Souvenir booklets of the Show are also available for sale at $15 at the ticketing booths.

     Admission for adults is $14. Children aged four to 14, students, senior citizens aged 60 or over and persons with a disability pay half price.
