The spokesperson of Shatin Hospital (SH) made the following announcement today (March 25):
Six male patients (aged 66-77) and one staff member of the Medicine & Geriatric ward in SH have presented with diarrhea and vomiting symptoms since 16 March 2007. Appropriate tests have been arranged for the patients. The Norovirus tests of three patients were positive, while the test results of the remaining three patients are pending. Among the patients, two have been transferred to the Prince of Wales Hospital for further treatment and the remaining patients are being treated under isolation in SH. All of them are in stable condition. The staff member concerned has now recovered.
Thorough cleansing and disinfection have been carried out in the ward. Infection control measures have already been enhanced. There will be no new admission and visiting to the ward for the time being. All patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
