The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (March 26) pursued 11 claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $140,000 on behalf of 38 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
At the Tribunal's hearing today, the three defendants, including Sun Sing (Japan) Trading Company Limited, Goodtimes Trading Limited and Hin Sum Manpower Company Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $31,467.9, $9,937.5 and $8,283.3, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other eight defendants, including Kwok Ping-lam trading as Senior Cargo Co, Chinese Club Discount Centre Limited, Lam Chun-hing trading as Creative Transportation Company, Champion Coach Company Limited, Lau Yau-ping trading as Wan Tai China HK Transportation Company, Cheer Excel Limited, Grace Lai Yuk-yan trading as Le Gala Fashion and Chung Hung-kai trading as Full Win Garment Company, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $36,592.5, $33,075, $9,447.33, $8,652.6, $2,860.45, $1,158.18, $946.19 and $279.05, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Tribunal further awarded $176, $106, $80, $140, $190, $150, $116, $70, $76, $150 and $130 as the costs in respect of the claims.
Goodtimes Trading Limited, Hin Sum Manpower Company Limited and Champion Coach Company Limited pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy earlier to 17, 6 and 12 counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and were fined $20,000, $21,000 and $14,000 respectively.
