Homeless Dance Company, a by-product of the Little Asia Dance Exchange Network (Laden) Tour of 2004, will bring a new collaborative dance, "Homeless Dance" to Hong Kong next month (May).
Five renowned choreographers and dancers, who participated in "Laden 04", Natalie Cursio (Melbourne), Motoko Ikeda (Tokyo), Kim Sung-yong (Seoul), Chan Yu-chun (Taipei) and Daniel Yeung (Hong Kong), will explore cultural identities, activities and symbols in the performance.
Homeless Dance Company is a "nomadic company", seeking to present dance events, collaborations and performances globally. It aims to gather artists in different countries to create a "snowball effect" and expand new networks in dance and the broader arts.
Natalie Cursio creates works for live performance and explores dance in the context of public space, film, photography and fashion. Her work has been presented in Taipei, South Korea, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia.
Motoko Ikeda has received many awards including the Expected Young Dancers by the Dance Association of Japan. She has choreographed many dance pieces and performed in Innocent Chekhov by Min Tanaka.
Kim Sung-yong is President and Artistic Director of Dance Company MOO-E and a chief member of Garimda Dance Troupe. He was awarded a Gold Medal at Donga Dance Concours and has been invited to Seoul Dance Festival, MODAFE, Dance Biennale and International Choreographer Competition in Bagnolet.
Chan Yu-chun joined the Dance Forum in 1991. She has been commissioned to make dance works for the Crown Arts Festival, Taipei, The Lincoln Center Out-Door Festival, New York, and The Feet Dance Festival, Philadelphia.
Daniel Yeung received the Rising Artist Award from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council in 2003, the Dance Awards from Hong Kong Dance Alliance in 2000 and 2005 and was nominated as "The Choreographer To Look At" by the BalletTanz year book in Europe in 2002.
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the programme will be staged at 8pm on May 11 and 12; and 3pm on May 12 and 13 at Cultural Activities Hall, Ngau Chi Wan Civic Centre. Ticket price is $130 and now available at URBTIX outlets. Senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients may have 50% off (limited tickets for students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis). A 10% discount applies to Friends of LCSD performing venues. Group booking discounts are available: 10% for four to nine tickets, 15% for 10 to 19 tickets, 20% for 20 tickets or more.

A post-performance meet-the-artists session will be held on May 12 (night session). Audiences are welcome to join. Admission is free for performance ticket holders.
