Land Registry to close North and Sai Kung District Search Offices from April 16
**********************************************************

The Land Registry announced today (April 4) that its North and Sai Kung District Search Offices would close from April 16.

A department spokesman said that over the past two years, more and more customers had been switching to the new internet services for conducting searches, resulting in a drastic reduction in the number of customers using counter services, particularly in the case of the North and Sai Kung District Search Offices.

After the closure, the owners' corporation registration services previously provided in the North and Sai Kung District Search Offices will be taken up by the Sha Tin District Search Office at 9th Floor, Sha Tin Government Offices, 1 Sheung Wo Che Road, Sha Tin.

"The North and Sai Kung District Councils have been notified of the arrangement and letters have been sent to all owners' corporations in the North and Sai Kung districts. Notices of the intended closure have been posted at the Central Search Office in Queensway Government Offices and all District Search Offices," the spokesman said.

The department will continue to provide counter search and owners' corporation registration services through its Central Search Office in Queensway Government Offices and the District Search Offices in Sha Tin, Tai Po, Yuen Long, Tuen Mun and Tsuen Wan. Customers can also conduct internet online searches at http://www.iris.gov.hk.

"For those who cannot make personal visits to other search offices or use the internet, they can either conduct searches by making mail or fax requests to our Customer Service Manager (Address: 28/F., Queensway Government Offices, 66 Queensway, Hong Kong; Fax number: 2523 0065) or call our Customer Service Hotline at 3105 0000," the spokesman said.

People can obtain the addresses and telephone numbers of the Land Registry's offices by viewing the Land Registry's website at http://www.landreg.gov.hk or calling its Customer Service Hotline.
