*****************************************************

The Government today (April 4) welcomed publication of the report on the Securities and Futures Commission's annual review of the Exchange's performance in its regulation of listing matters, covering the operation of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited in 2005.

The review has focused on the quality of the Exchange's decision-making process as well as operational procedures in certain functional areas.  The report concludes that the Exchange's decision-making process and operational procedures reviewed are appropriate to enable it to discharge its statutory obligation to maintain an orderly, informative and fair market. The report has also identified areas of potential improvement, and made a number of constructive recommendations with respect to the Exchange’s practices in administering the listing regime.

"The conduct of the annual review represents concerted efforts by the commission and the Exchange to seek continuous enhancement to the regulatory regime for the securities market in Hong Kong.  I thank the commission and the Exchange for their efforts and contribution to the exercise," a government spokesman said.
