A Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital spokesperson announced today (April 4) that six patients, aged from 31 to 58, of a male psychiatric ward have presented with symptoms of an influenza-like illness. The patients are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition. Viral test results of all patients are positive to Influenza A.
All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance. Admission and visiting to the ward have been suspended. Infection control measures have already been reinforced. Thorough cleansing and disinfection have been carried out in the ward.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
