Prospective applicants for civil service posts at degree or professional level can apply from tomorrow (April 7) to sit for the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) to be held on June 9 in Hong Kong.
A spokesman for the Civil Service Bureau said that valid CRE results were required of applicants for civil service posts at degree or professional level. "People who are interested in applying for civil service posts at degree or professional level in the near future may wish to consider sitting for the coming CRE, so as to be eligible to apply for civil service openings at degree or professional level that might be available before another CRE is held," the spokesman said.
"For the coming CRE, holders of degree or professional qualifications, or university students who will have attained a degree in 2007 may apply."
The examination consists of three one-hour papers - Use of English (UE), Use of Chinese (UC) and Aptitude Test (AT), in multiple-choice format. Applicants for civil service posts at degree or professional level are required to obtain 'Level 2' or 'Level 1' results in the two language papers in the CRE as prescribed in the entry requirements set for the relevant civil service posts in different civil service grades. Applicants for some of these posts are also required to pass the AT paper. The CRE is held independent of the recruitment process for any civil service post. Persons who wish to apply for civil service vacancies should apply to the recruiting grades/departments direct.
From today, people interested in taking the coming CRE may apply through the on-line facilities at the bureau homepage at www.csb.gov.hk, or using the CRE application form (CSB31 (3/2007)) which can be downloaded from the bureau homepage or obtained from any of the Public Enquiry Service Centres of District Offices or Job Centres of Labour Department. Applications must be made before 5pm on April 20 (Hong Kong Time).
