Regarding a male psychiatric ward in Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) in which there were patients have presented with symptoms of influenza like illness, the hospital spokesperson announced the following update today (April 6):
Three more patients in the same ward have presented with symptoms of fever and/or influenza like illness. The patients are being treated under isolation and their condition stable. Viral test result of two patients is positive to Influenza A and one is negative.
Since April 1, 2007, there are totally 9 patients have presented with the symptoms. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance. Admission and visiting to the ward have been suspended. Infection control measures have already been reinforced. Thorough cleansing and disinfection have been carried out in the ward.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
