LegCo to debate on Appropriation Bill 2007

    The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     The Legislative Council will hold a meeting this Wednesday (April 18) at 11 am in the Chamber of the Legislative Council Building. During the meeting, Members will continue the Second Reading debate on the Appropriation Bill 2007 and Government officials will speak on the Bill.

     If this Bill is supported by Members and receives its Second Reading, Hon James To will move two resolutions under Rule 69(3) of the Rules of Procedure of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to amend the Bill at the Committee Stage.

     The two resolutions, to be moved by Hon James To, resolve that "head 122 be reduced by $45,170,000 in respect of subhead 000" and "head 122 be reduced by $80,000,000 in respect of subhead 103".

     After going through the Committee Stage, the Bill will be read the third time.

     As for bills, the Patents (Amendment) Bill 2007, the Import and Export (Amendment) Bill 2007, the Tsing Sha Control Area Bill, and the Energy Efficiency (Labelling of Products) Bill will be introduced into the Council for First and Second Readings. Debates on the bills will be adjourned.

     Meanwhile, the President of the Legislative Council will present at the meeting the Report No. 48 of the Director of Audit on the results of value for money audits - March 2007.

     During the meeting, Members will ask the Government 20 questions on various policy areas and require written replies.

     Members of the public are welcome to observe the proceedings of the meeting from the public galleries of the Legislative Council Chamber. They may reserve seats by calling 2869 9399 during office hours. Seats will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Members of the public can also listen to the meeting via the audio webcast system on the Legislative Council homepage.
