The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (April 16) obtained two orders for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $190,000 against two employers in the District Court. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued one claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $1,000 on behalf of five employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employer.
The District Court today issued judgments against two employers, namely, Chiu Lee Transportation (Container) Co. Limited and Wing Hop Fung Weaving & Dyeing Factory Limited. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA the sums of $100,065.01 and $95,225.64, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to two and four employees of the defendants respectively.
At the tribunal's hearing today, the defendant, Cheong Wan Investments Limited trading as Elite City Seafood Restaurant, did not appear. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $1,152.14, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the Tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court and the Tribunal respectively further awarded payments of $930 and $126 as the costs in respect of the claims.
