SFST to promote HK in New York and Toronto

    The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr Frederick Ma, will tomorrow (April 19) start a week-long visit to New York and Toronto to promote Hong Kong as an international financial centre and the gateway to China.

     During the visit, Mr Ma will meet senior government officials and leading figures of the financial services and business sectors. He will also speak at a luncheon and business forums.

     Mr Ma's programme in New York includes an address on the theme "Hong Kong: Your Bridge to Opportunities in China" at a luncheon organised by the Committee of 100 which also features the US Secretary of the Treasury, Mr Henry Paulson, as a keynote speaker.

     In Toronto, Mr Ma will meet the Canadian Federal Minister of Finance, Mr Jim Flaherty and the Ontario Minister of Finance, Mr Greg Sorbara.

     Besides attending the Canada-Hong Kong Business Forum, Mr Ma will call on the Toronto Stock Exchange and open the stock market during his visit.

     Mr Ma will return to Hong Kong on April 26.
