The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (April 20) pursued seven claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $100,000 on behalf of 16 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
At the tribunal's hearing today, defendant Choi Yin Fong trading as Sik Lok Mei Fast Food, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $30,335.85, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other six defendants - Woo Hoi Sing trading as Win's Transportation Company, Harmony Property Management Limited, Chun Lung Construction Engineering Limited, Teo Ristorante & Bar Limited, Utec Limited and Star Promotion Limited - did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $36,096.32, $23,820.36, $6,540.52, $4,210.05, $2,382 and $296.72, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further awarded $180, $280, $126, $300, $150, $196 and $76 as the costs in respect of the claims.
Utec Limited pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy earlier to 12 counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $21,000.
