Hong Kong donates to help less developed members of the World Trade Organization
********************************************************

A government spokesman said today (April 24) that Hong Kong had donated a sum of 300,000 Swiss francs (around HK$1.9 million) to the World Trade Organization (WTO) Doha Development Agenda Global Trust Fund (DDAGTF).

The DDAGTF is a centralised source of funding for WTO technical assistance activities targeted at less developed members of the WTO.  With this fund, the WTO organises programs and training activities to assist less developed members in understanding and implementing WTO agreements and achieving fuller participation in the WTO.

"Being a good citizen of the WTO, Hong Kong is pleased to be able to assist less developed members to better participate in the work of the WTO. The negotiations under the Doha Development Agenda are now at a crucial stage with WTO members working hard to attain substantial breakthrough.

"Technical assistance through the DDAGTF is thus particularly meaningful to the less developed members who are actively involved in the negotiations", the spokesman said.
