The nomination period for the by-election in the Hong Lok Yuen Constituency of the Tai Po District Council to fill the vacant office of an elected member will start tomorrow (April 25) and close on May 9.
"A nominee must be a registered geographical constituency elector aged 21 or above who has ordinarily lived in Hong Kong for the three years immediately before his/her nomination," a spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office said today (April 24).
"A nomination must be subscribed to by 10 registered electors of the constituency. Each elector is allowed to subscribe to only one nomination."
The nominee must personally submit the completed nomination form, together with an election deposit of $3,000, to the Returning Officer for the by-election. Apart from general holidays, nominations can be handed in from 9am to 5pm, Mondays to Fridays, and from 9am to noon on Saturdays during the nomination period.
The Returning Officer for the by-election is the District Officer (Tai Po), whose office is located at 2/F Tai Po Government Offices Building, 1 Ting Kok Road, Tai Po.
Nomination forms and the Guidelines on Election-related Activities in respect of the District Council Elections are available at the office of the Returning Officer and can be downloaded at www.reo.gov.hk.
Nomination forms and the Guidelines are also available at the Registration and Electoral Office at 10/F Harbour Centre, 25 Harbour Road, Wan Chai, and at 10/F Guardian House, 32 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai. Both offices will extend their service hours to include Saturday mornings during the nomination period.
All nominees are advised to submit their nominations early so that they will have time to rectify mistakes before the deadline. Enquiries can be made to the election hotline, 2891 1001.
A poll will be held on Sunday, June 10, if there is more than one validly nominated candidate.
