Learning to play a musical instrument not only helps young people develop their music talent, but also stimulates creativity and enhances their interest in art.
Organised by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Instrumental Music Training Scheme is now recruiting slot-in trainees and intermediate―year one trainees for 2007-08. Deadline for applications is May 11.
With an annual enrolment of more than 4,000 trainees, the scheme provides training in different string, wind and Chinese musical instruments, such as violin, viola, cello, flute, saxophone, erhu, dizi, and zhongruan, with supplementary courses in musicianship and theory to provide trainees with a comprehensive course of music training.
Weekly group lessons, from elementary to advanced level, are conducted in Cantonese at the Music Office's five music centres - Wan Chai, Kwun Tong, Mong Kok, Sha Tin and Tsuen Wan. Annual tuition fees of $2,420 for intermediate level and $3,190 for advanced level are payable in four instalments.
Leaflets and application forms are now available at all music centres of the Music Office or the Music Office website: www.lcsd.gov.hk/musicoffice. Qualified applicants will be invited to attend an audition in June, and notified of audition results by mid-August.
