The following is issued on behalf of the Advisory Committee on Human Resources Development in the Financial Services Sector:

The success of the Business Students Shadowing Attachment Programme was marked by the enthusiastic and encouraging remarks by participating students at a sharing session today (May 4).

The programme, from April 13 to May 2, was co-organised by the Advisory Committee on Human Resources Development in the Financial Services Sector (FinMan Committee) and the Lingnan University. It provided university students with opportunities to experience real-life business operations, skills requirements, cultures, and decision making within the financial services industry.

Expressing aspiration for a good career path in the financial services sector, the participating students told today's sharing session that the attachment programme had given them a valuable chance to learn from the experience of senior executives of major business corporations.

Opening the session, the Chairman of the FinMan Committee, Mr Chan Tze-ching said the programme provided a precious opportunity for students to experience for themselves the career life in multinational financial services corporations, including commercial banks, investment banks, insurance companies, and accounting firms.

Mr Chan thanked Lingnan University and the participating corporations for their contributions to and assistance in making the programme a success.

"The FinMan Committee will continue to strive to forge a closer tie between the industry and the academia in nurturing financial talents for Hong Kong."

Speaking at the session, the President of Lingnan University, Professor Edward Chen, expressed his gratitude to FinMan Committee and all other participating companies for their great support of the programme. Professor Chen said the programme, emphasising the real-life experience of students, provided students with a chance to apply their knowledge learnt from books, an illustration of one of the "3Es" - "Experience" - advocated by Lingnan University for quality teaching and learning.

Professor Chen added the programme had laid the foundation for deeper collaboration between Lingnan University and the financial services industry in future. In the long run, the programme could also strengthen the university's competence in providing its students with similar kinds of attachment programme, which could help enrich students' learning experience.

The Chairman of Advisory Board on Business Studies of Lingnan University, Dr Ng Tat-lun, said the co-ordinated effort of both academia and industry was required to build a brighter future for our youngsters and thus for the society as a whole.

A total of 32 corporations and 98 students participated in the programme.

The attachment programme is the fourth event of the FinMan Committee's Industry/Academia Collaboration on Nurturing Financial Talent Series. The first three events of this series held last year in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University were well-received by both the industry and students.
