The first wedding under the "Choose an LCSD venue for your wedding" of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department was held today (May 6) at the Bauhinia Garden of Kowloon Tsai Park.
Under the scheme, the first couple married at one of the department's venues was Miss Janice Ng and Mr Victor Yiu.
The couple hosted a romantic Western style garden party on the lawn of the Bauhinia Garden of Kowloon Tsai Park. The venue was decorated by a private company and the wedding ceremony conducted in the Christian religion was witnessed by some 80 relatives and friends sharing the couple's big day at a cocktail reception.
Representing the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Chief Leisure Manager (Kowloon) Ms Florence Tsui presented a souvenir to the couple during the ceremony and wished them a happy marriage.
There are six venues under the scheme but why did the couple choose Kowloon Tsai Park? Mr Yiu said they had been longing for a Western style wedding in the form of a garden party. The launching of "Choose and LCSD venue for your wedding" scheme on February 14 fit their wedding plan perfectly. The lawn of the Bauhinia Garden of Kowloon Tsai Park was picked as the stage of their big day.
Mr Yiu said his bride, who studied overseas, wanted cinematic aesthetic. They could not resist the enticement of the lawn in the Bauhinia Garden even though they were aware that weather would be a concern for an outdoor ceremony.
Under the "Choose an LCSD venue for your wedding" scheme, the six venues on offer are:
- The assembly hall of Lei Yue Mun Park and Holiday Village, which is now a historic building and formerly a chapel
- Six Arts Terrace of Kowloon Walled City Park, which is an ideal place for holding a Chinese wedding ceremony
- Bauhinia Garden of Kowloon Tsai Park, where flowers and the grass create a contrast of crimson and green in this idyllic retreat
- Lawn and Amphitheatre of Tai Po Waterfront Park, which are perfect for a quintessential garden wedding
- Repulse Bay Beach, where couples can choose the glow of sunset and a beach
- Sai Kung Waterfront Park, which has a leisure atmosphere
Application forms can be downloaded from the department website and are available at the 18 Leisure and Cultural Services Department District Leisure Services Offices and holiday villages.
