The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) will let out a total of 45 service trade stalls in 12 public markets through open auctions next month (February).
An FEHD spokesman today (January 10) said, "The response to the introduction of service trade stalls in public markets in June 2009 was encouraging. Over 80% of the stalls were leased out.
"The FEHD will introduce more service trade stalls in different public markets for a wider variety of public market services, with a view to increasing patronage and further improving the business environment." Respective Market Management Consultation Committees were consulted on this scheme and it was well received by stall operators.
Permitted service trades include beauty/manicure/massage parlours, computer-related services, telecommunications services, courier services and renovation/interior design. The stalls will be located in Java Road Market (two stalls) and Quarry Bay Market (two stalls) in Eastern District, Centre Street Market (five stalls) in Central and Western District, Yue Kwong Road Market (two stalls) and Stanley Waterfront Mart (one stall) in Southern District on Hong Kong Island; Yee On Street Market (seven stalls) and Lei Yue Mun Market (four stalls) in Kwun Tong District, Kowloon City Market (two stalls) in Kowloon City District, Po On Road Market (nine stalls) in Sham Shui Po District and Tai Kok Tsui Market (one stall) in Mong Kok District in Kowloon; and Heung Che Street Market (four stalls) in Tsuen Wan District and Plover Cove Road Market (six stalls) in Tai Po District in the New Territories.
Depending on the size and location of individual stalls, the upset price of the monthly rent ranges from $420 to $10,100.
"The open auction for the stalls in Tsuen Wan District is scheduled for February 15, while those for the remaining stalls will be held in February. Any person aged 18 years or above and ordinarily resides in Hong Kong can take part in the auctions," the spokesman said.
