To coincide with the exhibition "Nobility and Virtue - A Selection of Late Ming and Early Qing Paintings and Calligraphies from the Chih Lo Lou Collection", the Hong Kong Museum of Art has invited scholars all around the world to give a series of lectures from January to April.
Jointly presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Chih Lo Lou Art Promotion (Non-profit Making) Ltd, the exhibition is currently being staged at the Museum of Art and will run until May 1. It features about 80 paintings and calligraphies by a number of artists of the late Ming and early Qing periods (around the mid-17th century). These artists lived at a time of drastic change in Chinese history and expressed their uneasy resignation, spiritual ideals and lofty aspirations through paintings and calligraphy using a wide array of styles.
To deepen public knowledge of Chinese painting and calligraphy, a series of lectures will be organised on Saturdays during the exhibition period. A total of 14 lectures will take place, with details as follows:
