Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 560 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 25 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the "Regional Traffic Day" on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation concluded at 7pm today (January 11) and a total of 193 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 406 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 154 FPTs for other traffic offences.

     Twenty-one pedestrians and 161 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

     Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.

     Statistics revealed that a total of 3,022 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island in 2010.

     Of them, 52.1 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
