A man who assaulted a Hawker Control Officer of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) and obstructed him in the exercise of his duties was today (February 25) sentenced to 240 hours' community service at the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts.

The officer was attacked when he assisted his subordinate in issuing a fixed penalty ticket to the defendant who was seen dumping litter in public place at Kam Chi Path, Ngau Chi Wan Village, Kowloon on November 3 last year.

The 50-year-old man was also fined $4,000 by the court for dumping litter in a public place.

"It is not right to use violence against public officers, and it has legal consequences," an FEHD spokesman said.

"People should co-operate with law enforcement officers in the execution of their duties," he added.
