The Home Affairs Bureau today (April 30) announced the re-appointment of Professor John Leong Chi-yan as the Chairman of the Public Libraries Advisory Committee (PLAC). The appointment of three new members and the re-appointment of 11 serving non-official members were also announced.
The Advisory Committee is appointed for a two-year term, effective from May 1, 2012, to April 30, 2014.
The Advisory Committee advises the Government on the development of public libraries in Hong Kong, including the formulation of strategies and measures for the development of library facilities and services; the role, functions and management of the Hong Kong Central Library as well as the encouragement of community support and partnership with different sectors in promoting reading, lifelong learning and literary arts.
The Home Affairs Bureau thanked the three outgoing members (Mr Holden Chow Ho-ding, Ms Kwan Sau-king and Ms Ng Mei-mei) for their contributions to the work of the advisory committee and looked forward to receiving the new PLAC's valuable advice on the development of the public libraries.
