Three arrested during anti-illegal employment operation "Windsand"

     The Immigration Department and the Hong Kong Police Force yesterday (October 31) jointly mounted an anti-illegal employment operation codenamed "Windsand", involving 10 immigration officers and 29 police officers. During the operation, officers raided 17 black spots for parallel goods trading including areas in the vicinity of the Advanced Technology Centre and Cambridge Plaza, San Wan Road, Choi Yuen Road, Choi Fat Street, Choi Fai Street, Ka Fu Close and Choi Po Court in the Sheung Shui area. During the operation, one male and two female Mainland visitors, aged from 48 to 49, were arrested for breaching their conditions of stay by being involved in suspected parallel goods trading. Officers also seized a batch of milk powder during the operation.  

     "Visitors are not allowed to take up employment in Hong Kong, whether paid or unpaid, without the permission of the Director of Immigration. Offenders are liable to prosecution and upon conviction face a maximum fine of $50,000 and up to two years' imprisonment. The Immigration Department will continue to take effective enforcement actions with related law enforcement departments against the offences concerned," an Immigration Department spokesman said.
