Tsuen Wan District Council (TWDC) and the Tsuen Wan District Civic Education Committee (TWDCEC) jointly held the "Let's Get to Know the Basic Law; To Take Forward Constitutional Development" Tsuen Wan District Basic Law promotion activities launch ceremony today (April 24) at Citywalk Piazza, Citywalk, Tsuen Wan, raising the curtain on a series of Basic Law promotion activities to be held in the district.
Officiating guests included the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing; the Chairman of the TWDC, Mr Chan Iu-seng; the Chairman of the TWDCEC, Mr Chung Wai-ping; and the District Officer (Tsuen Wan), Miss Jenny Yip. The Basic Law exhibition and quiz game provided on site were well-received by residents.
Mr Tsang said at the ceremony that the Basic Law is a constitutional and legal document that serves as a basis for the constitutional development of Hong Kong. Understanding the Basic Law is a prerequisite to take forward constitutional development.
He added that a variety of promotional activities were being held in 18 districts to disseminate Basic Law messages to every corner of the community. He appealed to residents to actively take part in these activities.
To enhance the community's understanding of the Basic Law, and to disseminate the message of achieving universal suffrage on the basis of and in accordance with the Basic Law, a series of activities including a roving exhibition, creative design competitions and a seminar will be held at schools in Tsuen Wan District. Furthermore, a roving exhibition cum quiz game will be held this month and in May at the following venues:
